Smart art.

See the worlds largest perler beads ("pärlplatta") in Fryshuset.

The students at Fryshuset high school has built the largest perler bead painting in the world. About 80 students beaded for 4,5 hours to finish 170 plates= 153000 beads.

The painting is 2,50x 3,40 m large and was finishied in november 2008. And has a total of 316.800 beads.

The perler bead is beads that you place on a plastic plate to create a pattern that reminds of mosaik. When finishied you iron with a paper in between to make the beads fuse together.

The perler bead was invented by Gunnar Knutsson in Vällingby, Stockholm in the beginning of the1960's. It was meant in first hand to be in use as therapy material for elderly at senior care. Soon the bead became popular at kindergardens and has in the last years become a more common material amongst artists.

Here are a display of some of my own perler bead creations!
